Test Your Oven First
Buy a $15 oven thermometer, set your oven to 350°F, and let it fully preheat for 30 minutes. If the actual temperature is off by more than 25°F, something is wrong.
1. Failed Temperature Sensor
A small metal probe inside the oven that reports temperature to the control board. If it drifts out of calibration or fails, the oven cannot maintain accurate heat. Repair cost: $180–$280.
2. Bad Heating Element
A weak bake element heats less than it should. A weak broil element leaves cold spots. Both are easily replaced. Repair cost: $200–$340.
3. Failed Igniter (Gas Oven)
A weak igniter causes the safety valve to close prematurely, resulting in low temperatures and long preheat times. Repair cost: $220–$380.
4. Bad Control Board
The brain of the oven. A failing control board sends incorrect signals to the elements. Repair cost: $280–$450.
5. Damaged Door Seal
Heat escaping around the door creates cool spots and uneven baking. Replace the gasket to restore proper temperature.
6. Recalibration May Be Enough
Some ovens can be recalibrated by the user (check your manual). Others require a technician with service software.
